I love this TeD talk. I first watched after a friend told me her son (15) watched as part of English. I liked it. I was impressed that his teacher was showing them this. I played it to my family, my daughter was 9 (I think) and seriously into Enid Blyton (which when I read to her I had always tried to point out some of it’s flaws) and she totally understood. We have since tried to add other kinds of story into the mix. We still talk about this video. I must read one of her novels. I am currently reading my daughter “Lord of the Flies” and even before we read the book, we looked up the life of the author and talked about the time it was written in to give context. We talk about this when we watch adverts as they imply lots of things about our world being normal that are not normal – overseas holidays, clean well dressed children etc
