I often find on first meeting something I will reject it quickly and then on second meeting I can be more open…. like kids and introducing something new, eg fussy eaters (space to warm up to idea). This is similar to a Stiener idea about sleeping on it: introduce a topic, then wait until the next day before starting.
I do believe the world will be changing dramatically. I was working as a high school cleaner (to earn money to do this course) and asked a high school cooking teacher, “what they were doing to teach kids in a way that would prepare them for climate change” and he had thought about it, and was trying to teach more vegetarian meals, this come up because I had seen signs of preserving of food – I think an essential skill. He has since left the school, but I was encouraged that he was thinking about it.
It is interesting that this article talks about teaching in relation to our current KS, however, I think children are actually in a totally different place, their knowledge system can never be the same as most adults as they are meeting new information, new ideas and techknowledgy in a way that the framers of the exisiting KS can’t reflect. Part of our problem in having transformational change is not valuing the contribution of young people. Social media is an example of a change that is youth led in many ways – although adults have constructed something an addictive platform, young people are developing their own ways to use it.
I also found several different ways of defining or looking at the word truth… Correspondence, coherance, pragmatic, and the scary (to me) constructivist….
